"I can say it now that we have won the game, but professional football really shouldn't be played on a surface like that," Clark told The Huddersfield Examiner.
"I spoke to the referee and I will put my concerns in writing because, on a pitch like that, there's a real worry over the safety of players."
The Terriers boss, however, was pleased with the side's display and at booking their place in Saturday's second round draw.
"We created a host of chances and, to be honest, it could have been Brighton all over again," he added.
"We need to be more ruthless and we certainly need to start keeping clean sheets.
"But this is Cup football and we are through, which is the main objective."
