TOWN manager Mick Wadsworth is hoping left-back Gareth Evans gets the green light to resume his comeback bid at Rotherham next week.
The 21-year-old former Leeds man, bidding to kick-start his campaign after summer knee surgery, missed out on a second Reserve outing against Barnsley on Wednesday because of bruising around the joint.
Manager Wadsworth was unwilling to risk further problems, and Evans has since undergone two days' of treatment.
Now he hopes to resume training on Monday, take part in Wednesday's Avon Insurance League Premier Division second-team match at Millmoor, then force his way into contention for the crucial Division II clash with Stockport at the McAlpine a week today.
"Missing the Barnsley game hasn't helped, but hopefully it will only be a minor setback," said Wadsworth, whose side were without a game today because of their FA Cup elimination.
"If he reports back okay on Monday - and there's no reason to suppose he won't - Gareth will be back into training with a view to playing against Rotherham Reserves on Wednesday."
