Midfielder Kevin Hill lashed in an undeserved equaliser with Torquay's only shot at goal in an almost entirely one-sided contest at the wind swept Galpharm Stadium.
Hill, back in the starting line up following a suspension, cracked a 20-yard effort into the top corner of the net, after Brian McAliskey cross was not properly cleared.
The effort was Torquay's first and only shot at goal and came from one of their few foray's into Huddersfield territory in a match where the visitors were battered by the home side and near gale force winds for long periods.
Huddersfield went ahead on 24 minutes when former Nigerian world cup star Efetobore Sodje headed in Tony Carss' corner to register his first goal of the season.
Town went on to hit the woodwork twice and Torquay keeper Olafur Gottskalksson held two goal-bound efforts from Chris Brandon. Danny Schofield and Jonathan Worthington also went close as the Terriers pinned the Gulls inside their own half for most of the match.
And Town's failure to press home the advantage was punished in the 56th minute when Sodje's scuffed clearance off a Brian McGlinchey centre set up nicely for Hill to blast past Huddesfield keeper Paul Rachubka from the left side of the box.
Once the visitors were level they seemed happy to settle for a point and spent the rest of the encounter time wasting at every opportunity.
Defender Craig Woodman was booked by Lincolnshire based referee Darren Drysdale for persistently taking too much time at free kicks and it nearly cost the visitors.
Drysdale added four minutes of stoppage time onto the match. During this period Brandon had a great chance to win it but was again denied by Olafur Gottskalksson.
Town playmaker Brandon was put clear by Worthington but his low shot was blocked by the keeper's legs and then cleared for a corner.
